Today, Ont' Sofa's very own Isaac Tyler released Give Me Mercy, his brand new single that deserves all the hype it has been receiving, with a play on BBC Radio York recently.
The track embodies everything a singer/songwriter effort should be featuring, with Isaac's prominent voice echoing over the pounding instrumental on the hook and chorus. Give Me Mercy balances the calm themes of the traditional singer/songwriter genre with the power demonstrated in the rest of the song, which makes this not only an incredibly exciting release, but one that should be getting serious attention from people who associate themselves as music fans.
"I'm so happy to have Give Me Mercy out" Isaac said.
"It's been a few years of work on the general sound of it and I'm so happy that people are finally able to listen to it.
"I'd love to build a good fan base who would happily buy my tracks - that's my aim for the future."
The track is, in terms of Isaac's vocal style, generally reminiscent of the likes of Damien Rice - it would be interesting to see what the pick up is across Spotify and Apple Music.
"I take inspiration from so many different artists, I just listen to so much" Isaac added.
"As well as Damien Rice I love Jeff Buckley, and take influence from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding - all the classic soul and motown artists."
Not only is the track technically well-written with its quirks and odd timings, it's also catchy, making it generally excellent if you're a casual listener too - there's something in Give Me Mercy for everyone.
"Give Me Mercy just feels really 'me' - it's all recorded live apart from the layered harmonies, which I think make it very raw.
"I had the song written for a while. When we brought it to the studio, the recording process was pretty smooth. After the guitar, drums and main vocal were recorded in, we then layered all the harmonies."
We at Ont' Sofa have been working towards the release for some time now. The time is definitely right and we are ecstatic with the end result - there's a lot of potential for Isaac as an artist in this release, and there's no reason why it shouldn't bring him plenty of exposure and success throughout his next few releases too.
