Aside from championing bands and artists that have played on our beloved sofa over recent years playing at Live at Leeds this weekend, we thought we would give you our recommendations of bands and artists you should see who haven’t had the luck of playing Ont’ Sofa.
Keeping it Yorkshire to start, Leeds based band Vitamin are playing the Brudenell Social Club DIY Stage at 21:00pm. The indie pop quartet are promising young band at the moment with the recognition of BBC introducing their singles ‘To Believe’ and ’Giving It Up’ have managed to make the Radio 1 playlists. We’re looking forward to hear what else the band has to release in the future as their new single ‘Waterfall’ is another catchy tune from them and we will be definitely checking them out this Saturday.
Arguably one of the hottest bands of the year, with them coming fourth in the BBC’s Sound of 2016 list, Blossoms are certainly going to go on to big things and we will be definitely trying to catch them whilst we can. They’ve become one of the hottest bands on the live circuit performing at SXSW, The Great Escape, T in the Park, Latitude, Reading & Leeds and an coming performance at Glastonbury. You can see them play at 20:00pm at LUU Refectory Dr.Martens Stage.
21-year-old from South London Izzy Bizu, like Blossoms was a part of the BBC’s Sound of 2016 long list. The sun kissed soul singer most noted for her songs ‘White Tiger’ and her new release ‘Mad Behaviour’ has toured under the likes of Rudimental and Foxes and has two Glastonbury performances under her belt. You can see her at the O2 Academy and 6:30pm.
If pops not your thing then you should definitely go and check out indie rockers from down under, DMA’s playing at 6:45pm at the LUU Refectory. The indie trio have just released their debut album ‘Hills End’ with the hit song ‘Delete’ which has featured on the vast majority of top radio stations playlists for the past few months. Tough choice to choose between these guys and Izzy Bizu, we may have to flip a coin on the day to decide!
At the top of the festival bill, its Circa Waves, a must see act in our eyes at this years festival. One of the hottest live bands around at the moment and with hit after hit off their debut album ‘Young Chasers’ you’d be silly to miss them! You can see the Liverpudlian rockers at the LUU Refectory at 21:30pm.
Our one to watch for the future, this guy has it all and is sure to be blowing up everywhere very soon. He’s an impressive singer songwriter from Birmingham and is being championed by icon Radio DJ Zane Lowe on Beats 1. He has so far released his first stunning EP called ‘Bang Bang’ which boasts his amazing vocals and song writing capabilities as well as some stunning guitar solo’s. You can catch Lawrence Taylor at Leeds College of Music Recital Room at 18:00pm.
