Every so often here at Ont' Sofa we get the opportunity and the privilege to record a truly talented artist. This has ranged from established artists like Becky Hill to emerging artists like Mali Hayes and Mide. Tony Momrelle represents an anomaly in this however as he blends the soul and enthusiasm of an emerging artists with the cool professionalism of a successful act.
Tony Momrelle is perhaps most recognised as a member of the world famous jazz group Incognito, a band that has racked up an impressive number of tours, albums and collaborations with some of R&B and Souls biggest names including the likes of Stevie Wonder, Chacka Khan and Paul Weller. With accomplishments like these you would think that would entitle Tony to some bragging rights!
Tony Momrelle's session for everyone at Ont' Sofa will remain a highlight of the year. We had the chance to shoot a session with Momrelle at one of our usual joints, Jaguar Shoes down in Shoreditch, East London with his amazing back up band. One of the most important pieces of advice we at Ont Sofa can give you when listening to Tony Momrelle is to hear the lyrics. The song, "Different Street's", tells a story of the different social issues in modern day society faced by many. For a self-composed piece... You feel it. It worked so well for us that it was a no-brainer giving him a place on our best of the bunch list for the month of May.
I would strongly recommend that you check out Tony's amazing performance down below and if you're interested having a gander at his own personal website here.
